First licensed in 2007, I have been active in many aspects of the hobby. In 2012 I became extremely interested n vhf/uhf weak signal and began roving in the January and June VHF contests. After the June 2014 contest, I had the privilege of seeing my callsign published in QST among the best of the best in VHF contesting. I scored 3rd in the West Gulf Division limited rover class.
All a sudden, I began to distance myself from the shack. I decided to only work 2 meter FM simplex with a buddy. This lasted until Jan 2022, when my best friend (KE5JEJ/SK) passed quickly from cancer.
I am now active on HF through 70 cm and enjoying radio, once again. There have been so many changes in the hobby and I sometimes feel like that new Ham in 2007.
I earned my Extra at the Orange, TX Hamfest in 2023 and finally began expanding the station capabilities around the same time, finally installing the initial EME tower and small array. That tower will be utilized for satellite communication as soon as the XYL allows the permanent, more robust EME tower to be erected.
K0AXX/R v2.9999910 has made it’s debut and we had a pretty good run in the June 2023 VHF Contest. I have decided to continue roving when I am able. Be on the lookout for v3.2 in the near future.
I owe a ton of grattitude to Marshall (K5QE), for his friendship and guidance over the past year. Without his support, many of my most recent accomplishments would be nil.
